TWO HOUSES FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!  If you need extra space for elderly family or visitors - we’ve got the place for you!  The owner built a lovely two bedroom/two bath cottage on the back of his property for family.  The main home is a large ranch-style house with three bedrooms and two baths.  The property is in St. Joe Beach, only 3 blocks from the beach.  It is a unique situation but if you need the space – it’s a steal.

Perfect Set up for Extended Family

Jim and I had a great day exploring off St. Vincent’s Island this week.  If you’re not familiar with this island, it is a national nature preserve accessible only by boat, canoe or kayak.  There is also a shuttle available from the boat ramp at Indian Pass.  We love fishing in the bayous and creeks that surround the area.  Check out the gator that we surprised as we rounded a curve in the creek!  This place is paradise for anyone that loves to get out and experience “wild” Florida.

For all of you Mexico Beach lovers, there was a fire at the El Governor Motel this afternoon.  There was one death and lots of questions regarding the fire.  We heard the sirens from our house but didn’t realize that the black smoke that we saw was the El Governor.  Fire fighters contained the fire but from the looks of it, there was a good bit of damage.  It is a very sad day for everyone involved.

For all of you fishing enthusiasts, your patience has been rewarded!  Pompano, those beautiful, silver discs that race through our surf every spring and fall have returned.  For the avid fisherman as well as the novice, feeling the tug of a pompano on your line will surely make your heart race.  Just find you a spot in the sand and cast your long line tipped with shrimp or a sand flea as far as your arm can fling it.  As soon as you get comfortable in your beach chair you’ll see the tip of your rod bend and you’ll be reeling in one of the fiercest fighters and best tasting fish in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fishermen all along the panhandle anticipate the annual run of cobia along the beaches as well.  You’ll see boats, large and small, outfitted with tall towers maneuvering near the beach this time of year.  These fishermen are in search of that most prized fish – the cobia.  You will hear them referred to as “ling” or “lemon fish”.  Whatever you call them, their appearance along the beaches is cause for excitement among fishermen who site cast for them with live eels!  The cobia disappear as quickly as they came so get out there!  Time’s a wastin’!

We had the pleasure of taking some friends from Wyoming and Mississippi fishing in St. Joe Bay last week.  Our friend’s father is 82, almost deaf and legally blind.  He “out fished” most of us catching flounder with a plastic lure.  It was the first time in the bay for all of them but certainly not the last!  We have also had success in the last few weeks catching specks in the channels of the bay. 

Talk about a success story!  We were exploring Wetappo Creek several weeks ago and sited over 30 – yep 30 – BALD EAGLES!  Most of them were recent fledglings.  We had seen 4 eagles near the creek the week earlier when we were putting up a “For Sale” sign on a lot and decided to take a look from the water.  It was an experience that neither of us will ever forget.
